
It was not unusual for Newt to let his hair grow to enormous lengths. His wife and close friends reminded him frequently when he looked a bit "shaggy."
His overall hygiene was not good. He often showed up for work in dirty shirts and pants. His mother claims he did not change his socks for 17 consecutive weeks. "He was smellier than a skunk in a outhouse," she would remark.
But, one fateful day, Newt's commitment to a successful political career
was symbolized by a long overdue trim. Newt referred to this as his "Don
King" moment.
